Notre Dame CB KeiVarae Russell discusses return

Notre Dame Fighting Irish cornerback KeiVarae Russell may have missed all of last season while on suspension for his role in an academic scandal, but that hasn’t stopped him from preparing for the 2015 campaign and coming back stronger than ever.

Russell recently put out a statement, which was posted on Twitter by Eric Hansen of the South Bend Tribune.

Russell has certainly been motivated and then some, going through crazy workouts and saying last October that he planned on “making history” upon his return. With Notre Dame having ranked 81st in the nation against the pass in 2014, having Russell and his athleticism in the secondary could prove to be the key to helping the team improve in that department. Prior to his suspension, Russell had 109 tackles, half a sack and three interceptions across two seasons.

Though me may need to shake off the cobwebs after a season away from the game, Russell appears beyond determined to make an impact when he makes his return to the field, which is likely to be in Notre Dame’s season opener against Texas on September 5.
