The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are considered to be one of the top teams in the country, and are expected to compete for a spot in the college football playoffs. Head coach Brian Kelly has had a lot of success with them throughout his tenure with the Irish, and he is especially excited about the 2015 team. He made some comments about this team being the deepest he has ever coached.
Brian Kelly, when asked if this team is his best group of components: “This is the deepest group of components.”

BK on team: States deepest team in tenure at ND, but doesn’t mean success.

While that type of comment is always glowing praise for a team, but they have to live up to this type of talk on the field when the season opens up.
Notre Dame will open their 2015 season up with a tough matchup against the Texas Longhorns on September 5th. It is a game where both teams will be looking to prove themselves right off the bat to start the season, but also a game that the Irish are expected to win. Texas is going to be improved from last season, but they still don’t have all of the pieces that they need.
It is going to be interesting to see whether or not the Fighting Irish end up being legitimate college football playoff contenders or not. They certainly look the part on paper, but there are quite a few teams that have looked the part and not delivered over the last few years. Having a coach like Kelly definitely gives them a better chance, but he can’t control what happens on the field.
Expect to see the Irish have a very good season in 2015, and to prove Kelly’s statement to be right and become a legitimate playoff contender.
