Former Ohio State Buckeyes superstar D’Angelo Russell was selected with the second overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft by the Los Angeles Lakers. He is going to be a big piece of the future for the Lakers, and is likely to be passed the torch from Kobe Bryant as the face of the Lakers’ franchise whenever Bryant decides to retire. That is a lot of pressure to be had placed on a young players shoulders, but he isn’t allowing it to phase him.
Russell stepped onto the court for the Panini NBA rookie photo shoot, and calmly knocked down a three-quarter court shot on camera.
Take a look at the impressive shot for yourself:
Obviously Russell is enjoying himself, and he is ready to take the NBA by storm. The Lakers are going to ask him to step in immediately and put up big numbers as a rookie, and is more than ready to shoulder that load. Los Angeles hasn’t been competitive for the past couple of seasons, but Russell is expected to help them begin turning things around in the 2015-16 season.
If this shot is evidence of what Russell can bring to the court, then the Lakers are going to be just fine.
That being said, it will be interesting to see what kind of production Russell does end up having during his rookie year. He will have the green light to do whatever he wants on-the-court, although he has to get used to playing with Bryant as well. Russell shouldn’t have too much of an issue with that, and fans can expect a very entertaining season from him.
