Western Kentucky All-American OL facing DUI charge

Things just got really bad for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers football team. Nothing is set in stone just yet, but if I know the NCAA and college football programs like I do, they could be without an All-American offensive lineman for the 2015 season.

According to College Football Talk, redshirt sophomore offensive lineman Brandon Ray was charged with careless driving and first-offense DUI back on July 9. The news came out Sunday afternoon once the team was made aware of Ray’s arrest. Ray has a court date set for October 7, just three days before the team takes on rival Middle Tennessee State.

This could be a huge blow to the Hilltoppers’ offensive line. As a redshirt freshman, Ray started every game for the team and was named a Football Writer’s Association of America Freshman All-American. The school released a statement on Ray’s situation.

“We were aware of the incidents when they occurred, and Brandon has already been disciplined internally.”

The school hasn’t announced whether or not Ray will miss any game time this season, but I would expect him not to miss much if he isn’t convicted in court.

The Hilltoppers open the season on September 3 when they play on the road in Nashville against Vanderbilt.
