Eagles fans petition for Pope Francis to bless Sam Bradford’s knees

With the upcoming NFL season quickly approaching, teams around the league are gearing up for the length and brutality of 16 professional football games. Training camps are under way, rosters are being set, and star players are undergoing diligent conditioning so as to ensure maximum health.

However, for some Philadelphia Eagles fans, these traditional forms of preparation are not enough.

One such fan, Pratik Patel of Audubon, PA, submitted a petition on change.org for Pope Francis to bless Eagles starting quarterback Sam Bradford’s knees on the Pope’s upcoming visit to Philly.

“The Pope is coming to Philly! Our city! With this Eagles season coming up, a lot of our Super Bowl hopes rely on Sam Bradford’s knees staying healthy. So, with one of the most religious representatives in the world visiting our wonderful place we call home, how about we get him to bless Bradford’s knees during his visit to Philly,” the petition reads.

“This town deserves a Super Bowl, and a healthy Bradford is the only way we will have a parade down Broad Street! Please sign this petition and Go Eagles and Welcome to Philly, Pope Francis!!!”

The petition, created four days ago, has garnered over 3,600 signatures and some valuable media attention, with Bradford himself telling ESPN that he would be partial to the idea.

The 2010 No.1 overall pick has already suffered two ACL tears since being drafted by the Rams, and Philly’s Super Bowl aspirations would appear to rest on his injury prone knees.

Whether His Holiness will deem Mr. Patel’s request worth of his attention is to be determined, but one can only assume the City of Brotherly Love would be most appreciative were he to comply.
