Texas freshman LB Cecil Cherry seeking transfer?

Though the Texas Longhorns don’t technically open fall camp until tonight, freshman linebacker Cecil Cherry is supposedly already looking to transfer out of the program.

Anwar Richardson of OrangeBloods reported the story on Twitter.

A three-star recruit out of Florida’s Victory Christian Academy, near Tampa, Cherry was originally committed to Tennessee, but then de-committed shortly after making his official visit to Texas for the team’s game against West Virginia last season.

Cherry then appeared primed and ready to be part of the Longhorns, but something has obviously changed.

Be it concerns over playing time or homesickness, Richardson is already speculating what might happen if Cherry does end up leaving Austin.

Whether he ends up staying in Texas or transferring to South Florida, or any other program, Cherry’s name has officially become one to watch over the next couple of days. Regardless of what he decides to do, Campus Sports will update this story.

Texas opens the season on the road against Notre Dame on September 5.
