Cecil Cherry transferring over uniform number?

On top of the university just not feeling like a good fit for him, another reason has surfaced as to why three-star linebacker Cecil Cherry is transferring from Texas. Per ESPN’s Max Olson, Cherry was also unhappy that he did not get his first choice of uniform number.

Not feeling the program is a good fit is one thing, but to leave over a uniform number? That just seems a bit silly. Granted, when playing high school sports, I was always bummed if somebody picked Number 12 before I did, but I wouldn’t leave the team over it. I’d always ask to swap and hope for the best.

If what Olson says is indeed true, Cherry clearly has some other issues he needs to work out before deciding where he’s heading next. Though he was a star at Victory Christian Academy in his home state of Florida, he’s probably going to have to work his way up the totem pole and earn playing time on the collegiate level, especially as a three-star recruit on a team like Texas that is stacked at linebacker.

Hopefully, Cherry learned from his time in Austin just what is going to be expected of him, and he takes that to heart when he decides on his next destination.
