Auburn Basketball now has top SEC class of 2016

Kentucky Wildcats fans are surely doing a collective double-take, as the SEC-rival Auburn Tigers are now considered to have the top 2016 recruiting class in the conference. 247 Sports updated the conference recruiting class rankings earlier today, when Auburn landed five-star shooting guard Mustapha Heron.

Joining Heron in the 2016 class, at least as of now, are three-star recruits Anfernee McLemore and Jared Harper. Tigers coach Bruce Pearl has only been with the program for a year, but it really seems to be taking shape under his watch. He has experience in the SEC, having coached at Tennessee for six seasons prior to his arrival at Auburn, and the addition of Henry proves that he is dead serious about turning the program around and bringing the basketball team back to its first NCAA Tournament since 2003.

It’s also worth noting that while Auburn already has three commits for 2016, Kentucky only has one: New Zealand center Tay Wynyard.

Needless to say, the SEC could become even more competitive in basketball in the next year if Pearl keeps ramping up his recruiting efforts at Auburn.
