The University of Akron has named Larry Williams as its new athletic director and, pending Board of Trustees approval, Williams will assume his new position on September 1. The news of Williams’ hiring was announced on the site GoZips.com.
Prior to his hiring at Akron, Williams worked at Equity Management, Inc., a corporate licensing agency, and had also served as the AD at both Marquette and Portland. He will be introduced at a press conference on the morning of August 25.
University president Scott L. Scarborough offered a brief remark on Williams’ hiring.
“Larry Williams was our top choice,” Scarborough said. “He brings a wealth of experience to the position. We are very excited to see what Larry will do to elevate our intercollegiate athletics program to a higher level.”
“I am thrilled to be joining the University of Akron,” Williams said. “I have seen the vibrancy of the Akron community and the Northeast Ohio region in support of athletic success. I look forward to engaging that support to the benefit of our remarkable Zip student-athletes.”
