4-star PF Kassoum Yakwe reportedly down to two schools

Class of 2016 four-star power forward Kassoum Yakwe, out of Our Savior New American School in Centereach, New York, about 54 miles east of New York City, has reported narrowed his list of potential schools down to two: Oregon and St. John’s. SNY’s Adam Zagoria reported the update on Zagsblog.

The next step for Yakwe is deciding whether or not he will reclassify to the Class of 2015 or play another season at prep school, as he graduated from OSNA. Regardless of his decision, he has certainly picked two potential programs for whom he could make an immediate impact once he steps on the court for either.

Oregon has two seniors up front in Elgin Cook and Dwayne Benjamin, plus junior college transfer Chris Boucher, and Yakwe would fill an immediate hole in the frontcourt should he decide to wait for college until next year.

The same can be said for St. John’s, who lost shot blocker Chris Obekpa to a transfer to UNLV earlier this summer. Given how new head coach Chris Mullin wants to strengthen the university’s recruiting ties locally, adding Yakwe would be a huge get for the Red Storm.

Yakwe himself has not given any indication as to which program he prefers more, but Campus Sports will update this story as any new information becomes available.
