A former star at nearby Dunbar High School, in Baltimore, Jones’ injury is a huge blow to a Maryland defensive unit that ranked 95th in the nation in total defense last season. Jones has great size at 6-foot-4, 269 pounds and was expected to see a bigger role in 2015 after getting one tackle in as many games last year.

No matter how you look at it, with Jones injured, Maryland enters its second Big Ten season facing an extreme uphill battle.

The Terps open the season at home against the CAA’s Richmond Spiders on September 5.
