Ronda Rousey’s next victim has been announced and a date for the execution has been set.
After the initial belief waas that Rousey would defend her UFC women’s bantamweight title against rival Miesha Tate in a trilogy fight, an announcement was made on Friday morning that was a curve ball for the mixed martial arts world.
It was announced that Rousey’s next title defense will come on Jan. 2 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas against undefeated challenger Holly Holm.

It is a bit early for Holm to get a shot at the title, but the UFC will play off of the storyline that she is an undefeated former boxing champ. She’ll be dubbed the “most dangerous opponent Rousey has ever faced” while her “punching power” will likely be exaggerated.
Regardless, the bout is now set and the biggest star in MMA will get to be in the spotlight again.
No other fights for the event were announced, but it will be interesting to see what the UFC does with Tate now. Perhaps a co-main event bout against Cris Cyborg at the same event? That could set up for a megafight between the winners at UFC 200 next July.
