Ben Simmons to Les Miles: ‘I can play wideout’

It has been just over a week since LSU football coach attempted to recruit LSU’s top-ranked basketball recruit for the class of 2015 Ben Simmons. It seems like Simmons has given some interest in possibly appearing on the field for the Tigers in the near future.

According to College Basketball Talk, Simmons, who has been in Australia with the team the last week, got wind of the Miles’s comments. He decided that he would let the coach know his appreciation for the offer and he even gave indication that he may even want to play on the gridiron.

“Coach Miles, I can play wideout,” Simmons said. “I been waiting for my opportunity for a little bit … finally getting my opportunity to play football, so we’ll see what we can do. I’m not sure about the helmets, though. I’m not trying to cover all this [points to his face].”

Miles is no stranger to recruiting basketball players already at the school. While he was coaching at Oklahoma State, Miles entertained the idea of recruiting basketball players to the team.

While the idea of Simmons taking the field for the Tigers is quite unlikely due to him possibly being the number one overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, it is still an interesting thought to have. Could you imagine Simmons’s six-foot-eight frame catching passes from Brandon Harris or Anthony Jennings this season?
