Cam Sutton will wear No. 7 in honor of injured teammate

Tennessee cornerback Rashaan Gaulden will not be able to play for the Volunteers this season due to being out with a fractured foot. Once the team learned of Gaulden being out, just about everyone of them wanted to switch their numbers for the season.

Only one player was able to have the honor of wearing number seven this season. That player is Cameron Sutton.

Sutton played alongside Gaulden last season as a defensive back himself, so it’s only fitting that he gets the honor of representing his secondary “brother” in 2015.

Apparently, it wasn’t just the run-of-the-mill jersey number argument on the Volunteers’ team this offseason. Not only did skill players and defensive backs want to wear the number, but even lineman and linebackers got in on the race for 7.

This team is very close. They knew that the loss of Gaulden will hurt the team significantly this season, so just having that number on the field will motivate them.

The Volunteers open the season on September 5 when they host Bowling Green at Nissan Stadium in Nashville.
