Georges St-Pierre has strong ties to UFC Fight Night 47

UFC Fight Night 47 takes place in a matter of hours at SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. While the main event between top featherweights Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira will generate the most buzz, one of Canada’s greatest athletes will also have a strong connection to the event.

Despite not fighting since Nov. of 2013, former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre has put a lot of work towards success at this event.

That is because St-Pierre has been one of the top training partners of TriStar’s Chad Laprise, who will face off against Francisco Trinaldo on the main card on FOX Sports 1.

Laprise knew he was going to be going against a strong grinder in Trinaldo, so he couldn’t have asked for a better training partner.

“He actually helped me out a lot for this fight,” Laprise said, via MMAjunkie.com. “Obviously, Trinaldo is a big, strong kind of grinder, and Georges helped me a lot with the wrestling and jiu-jitsu. I would partner up with him. If I was doing five rounds of grappling, I would do three with him at least. He was a big help for my camp, and I appreciate his help.”

We will see on Sunday night if training with greatness will help Laprise reach the next step of his career.

The main card of UFC Fight Night 47 kicks off at 9 p.m. ET.
