James Harden visited alma mater Arizona State yesterday

James Harden is one of the most polarizing stars in the NBA today, but before his fame (and his beard) in the professional ranks, he was a member of the Arizona State Sun Devils. He is appreciative of his roots within the NCAA ranks, so he showed that when he visited his alma mater on Saturday afternoon.

College Spun shared a photo of Harden visiting with the Sun Devils’ new head coach Bobby Hurley and his son. It looks like Hurley is going to have a lot of motivation for the upcoming season as he knows that Harden is behind the Sun Devils to the fullest.

The Sun Devils last won a game in the NCAA Tournament in 2009 during Harden’s senior season. The team has only made one appearance in the tournament since then, in 2014, but coach Hurley is hoping to turn things around for his team this year.

Hurley has a pretty decent record as a head coach. In his first two seasons as a coach at Buffalo, his team won two straight regular season MAC East division championships, as well as winning the regular season conference and tournament championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament last season.
