In a press release by its social media outlets, the Ball State Cardinals unwrapped five never-before-worn helmet designs to take advantage of in the upcoming season, in addition to one – of which (the jet black) premiered last season against Colgate.
Amongst the mock-ups include a military appreciation-themed helmet with an olive green cardinal that resembles the digital desert camo pattern worn by the Marine Corps in their battle fatigues. Also, a bubblegum-colored cardinal head that’s tailored towards Breast Cancer Awareness month in October.

Ball State’s equipment manager stressed of increasing the availability of specialized helmets associated with different occasions. A fair majority of the helmets will churn out a matte paint dome with chrome numbering/fill-ins and chrome face masks.
Another pitch was to adorn the Riddell helmets with a raised, outlined number system, whose goal was to trigger a moment of reminiscing of helmet designs in previous Ball State seasons.
The first helmet to debut will be the olive green/charcoal gray/smokey black for a September 3rd match-up versus the Virginia Military Institute.
