Though former Missouri Tigers receiver Bud Sasser failed his NFL physical with the St. Louis Rams due to a heart condition, he will still be with the team this season. Per a report from ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, Sasser was hired by the team as its new external affairs coordinator.
Rams coach Jeff Fisher commented on the hire.
“We are really excited to have him on board,” coach Jeff Fisher said. “He’s going to be working in alumni relations and youth football and it’s just a great opportunity for him. He’s an outstanding young man who obviously had something that was clearly out of his control and I think he realizes that this is the best thing for him from a future standpoint.”
Sasser also made an announcement on his personal Twitter page.

Sasser was selected by St. Louis in the sixth round of this year’s NFL Draft and caught 116 passes for 1,611 yards and 14 touchdowns in four years at Missouri. Speaking to Wagoner and other reporters, he expressed hope that he would be able to play at some point in the future.
St. Louis opens the season at home against Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks on September 13.
