Entering his third year as the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Bret Bielema is making headlines off the field for all the right reasons.
According to AL.com, Bielema attended a fan event Friday night where he spoke about his Razorbacks’ upcoming opponents for the 2015 season in Springdale, Arkansas, the last city Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn coached high school football.
When he began to speak about facing the Auburn Tigers on Oct. 24, he shared his feelings about the Tigers.
“Probably doesn’t need to be said in here how much I hate Auburn,” Bielema said, according to Arkansas News Bureau reporter Eric Bolin.
The statement drew laughs and applause from Arkansas fans in attendance. Bielema has been known to make bold statements in the past about his rivals.
It appears Bielema is trying to rekindle an on-and-off-again rivalry with Malzahn and the Tigers in anticipation for their potential top-25 ranked matchup this season.
After losing last season by a score of 45-21 to Auburn, it will be interesting to see how Bielema’s Razorbacks will respond after finishing the season with two shutouts against SEC teams Ole Miss and LSU and an impressive bowl win against the Texas Longhorns.
Entering the season Arkansas is ranked No. 18 in the AP poll.
