USC Trojans senior signal-caller Cody Kessler is widely regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in all of college football. So, because of his talent and success, it should come as no surprise that Kessler is receiving very high praise in the scouting community.
In a recent article by NFL draft guru Gil Brandt, the former VP of player personnel for the Dallas Cowboys delivered a very favorable comparison for the Trojans leader.
Brandt said that Kessler “reminds you of Drew Brees in college” when you watch the film.
That is some very, very high praise.
Kessler, who Brandt also describes as “very smart, very accurate” — comes in at No. 13 on the senior analyst’s list of the top NFL prospects in college football.
Of course, not everyone is as sold on Kessler as Brandt.
Fellow NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks knocked Kessler down a few pegs by saying the senior “might lack the big arm that scouts covet.” However, Kessler recovered in Brooks’ evaluation when he added, “but there isn’t a better game manager in college football.”
It is going to be interesting to see how Kessler performs his final year in college, but he is certainly capable of impressing the scouts and leading his team to a berth in the College Football Playoff.
Kessler and the Trojans kickoff their 2015 campaign on Sept. 5 against Arkansas State.
