John U. Bacon is a Michigan alum and author of the book entitled ”Endzone: The Rise, Fall, and Return of Michigan Football.” The book chronicles the tenure of former athletic director Dave Brandon and head coach Brady Hoke, while looking ahead to the future of the program under Jim Harbaugh. Bacon is doing an AMA on RedditCFB today and dropped a very interesting piece of info on the coaching search that went on in Ann Arbor.
According to Bacon, Harbaugh was always the top choice but that three other NFL coaches expressed interest in the position.

Bacon doesn’t say who the other three coaches were or how serious there inquiries were. Michigan has not been a premier football team for a while and to have so much interest is a little surprising.
Bacon also believes that it will take Harbaugh three or four years to get the team in the conversation for a playoff berth.
The Harbaugh era will begin this Thursday, on September 3rd. Michigan is not expected to win the game, but fans will be searching for any type improvement.
