The Jacksonville Jaguars have officially placed rookie defensive end Dante Fowler on injured reserve, ending his season and setting the team’s roster at 75 players well before Tuesday’s deadline.
Fowler was drafted third overall out of Florida by the Jaguars in this year’s NFL Draft, but tore his ACL in the very first practice of rookie minicamps. He remained on the active roster because putting him on IR sooner would have required him going through waivers. Tackle Josh Wells and receiver Greg Jenkins were also placed on IR with Fowler.
Losing Fowler this season is a tough blow for Jacksonville’s defense, as he had 140 tackles (33 for a loss) with 14.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in three years with the Gators. Hopefully, he recovers quickly and is at full health next season so that he can help take the Jaguars forward and closer to playoff contention once again.
