Alabama leaning towards starting Jacob Coker in Week 1

When the Alabama Crimson Tide released their depth chart for the opening weekend of the 2015 college football season, everyone’s eyes gravitated towards the quarterback position. Head coach Nick Saban decided to list five quarterbacks on the starting depth chart, but Campus Sports is hearing one quarterback currently leads the way.

According to a source close to the program, the Crimson Tide are leaning towards starting redshirt senior Jacob Coker against Wisconsin on Sept. 5 in Arlington.

Coker, who transferred to Alabama from Florida State last season, has thrown for 698 yards, five touchdowns and one interception during his college career.

While Coker is currently in the driver’s seat for the starting job in Week One, the source noted that Alec Morris and Cooper Bateman are also expected to see time. The trio of quarterbacks currently are alternating time with the first-team offense during practice.

Alabama and Wisconsin are set to kick off their seasons at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
