Virginia still waiting for decision on four-star forward

The Virginia Cavaliers men’s basketball team is still waiting on the eligibility decision regarding four-star forward Mamadi Diakite. Per Doug Doughty of the Roanoke Times, Diakite is considering re-classifying up from the Class of 2016 up to 2015 even though classes have already started in Charlottesville.

Diakite has already graduated from the Blue Ridge School in St. George, Virginia, but also has transcripts from other schools in his home country of Guinea, in western Africa. If he does enroll this year, a redshirt is likely so he can further adjust to the collegiate level.

Just the same, Diakite has a great build for power forward at 6-foot-9, 180 pounds and has a high motor that could frustrate many a team once he fills out more.

But that all depends on what the NCAA and Virginia have to say, as student-athlete eligibility is being taken more and more seriously with each passing year. Until every stone is unturned, we must assume that Diakite will arrive on campus next year as originally planned.
