Northwestern to host Chicago Blackhawks at next game

In what could be described a rather bland opening weekend of college football, the Northwestern Wildcats pulled off easily the biggest upset after beating Stanford 16-6 in a defensive showdown. The team hopes to have a bit of the championship glory rub off on them when the 2015 Stanley Cup Champions’ executive staff will pay a visit to Evanston.

According to College Football Talk, Chicago Blackhawks chairman and Northwestern alum Rocky Wirtz, President and CEO John McDonough, and executive vice president Jay Blunk will serve as honorary captains for the Wildcats’ game against Eastern Illinois. The Stanley Cup will also make an appearance at Ryan Field, much like it did in 2010 when the Blackhawks last won it.

The Wildcats have been trying to brand itself as the college team of Chicago for some time and this is their latest effort in the process. With the school being in the suburbs of the Windy City, Northwestern has even gone so far as to label itself Chicago’s Big Ten school.

The easiest way for them to connect with the people of Chicago? Do like their NHL team and just keep winning.
