Report: Former Iowa star Tyler Sash passes away at 27

The Iowa Hawkeyes family has been struck by tragedy. On Tuesday afternoon, it was announced that former Iowa star Tyler Sash was found dead. He was just 27 years old. Sash was discovered at around 8 a.m. by a family member.

The cause of death is not yet known, but an autopsy will be conducted on Wednesday.

No foul play is expected.

After the news began to surface, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz canceled his regularly scheduled press conference and issued a statement regarding the sad news.

We are all very saddened to hear about the untimely loss of Tyler,” said Ferentz.  “It is always so difficult when it involves someone this young. Our heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to Tyler’s family during this extremely difficult time – and we want them to know they are not in this alone.  The commitment, passion, and excitement that Tyler brought to football and to life will always endear him to Hawkeye coaches, teammates, and fans. He touched our hearts in many ways and will be missed by all of us.”

Sash played for Iowa from 2008-2010, before going on to play at the next level with the New York Giants.

During his time in the NFL, Sash was a member of the Super Bowl XLVI winning team.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of Sash’s family and friends.
