The Iowa Hawkeyes will wear special No. 9 helmets during Saturday’s game to honor alum Tyler Sash, who passed away unexpectably this past week.
The team tweeted a photo of the commemorative football helmet with the words, “On Saturday, we will honor Tyler Sash by replacing one Tigerhawk with No. 9 “
The No. 9 decal covers the team logo.

Earlier this week the 27-year-old New York Giants Safety was found dead.
Many details surround Sash’s death are currently unknown. However some including former Iowa State player Jeff Woody speculate that the former NFL player may have committed suicide.
He wrote in his blog Tuesday that he had “worked with Tyler last fall on the CyHawk Rewind TV show on Channel 5 in Des Moines” and believed that in his soul, Sash was depressed after being cut from that Giants in 2013 because being an athlete was the only identity he had.
Before being cut, the NFL suspended Sash for four games in 2012 after he tested positive for Adderall, a drug used to treat ADHD.
Sash was also pled guilty to public intoxication and paid a $65 dollar fine after he was arrested in 2014 for leading police on a motorized scooter chase.
The Hawkeye’s will take on Iowa State Saturday. FOX network will broadcast the game.
