Memphis President apologizes, won’t honor John Calipari

On Wednesday, it was announced that Memphis would be honoring former head basketball coach John Calipari for all his successes with the school during the season. Memphis fans were not too happy with that announcement and rightfully so after Calipari left for Kentucky in the midst of an NCAA investigation.

It looks like the fans’ uproar has caused university President Dr. David Rudd to go in a different direction. According to College Spun, Rudd has called off the celebration scheduled for sometime in December and issued a public apology via Twitter.

While I don’t disagree with what Rudd did because it really keeps the fans happy, it is still a little odd that Memphis fans are upset about what is going on. I can understand that he left the school in an untimely manner, but fans still can not deny what Calipari did for the school and their basketball program.

Maybe one day the Memphis faithful will be able to forgive Calipari, but it surely won’t be coming this season.
