Watch moving ’30 for 30′ on Bush’s first pitch following 9/11

Today, we remember the tragedy of 9/11. Cowardly terrorist attacks that claimed the lives of thousands shook my hometown of New York City to its core, and watching our beloved New York Yankees fight their way to a fourth consecutive American League championship provided the perfect escape from the malaise.

That said, when it came time for Game 3 of that year’s World Series, it was only fitting that President George W. Bush, leader of the free world, throw out the first pitch. And what a pitch it was.

It just so happens that ESPN put together a short for its “30 for 30” series all about President Bush’s first pitch, and it will give you all of the feels.

Say what you want about Bush, but there’s no denying that he stepped up as a leader and rallied all of America together in its time of great need. Moreover, baseball is our national pastime. Sometimes, when things are at their worst, it’s all we have.

Thus, I urge you all to watch the video today as we remind ourselves never to forget what happened and, if you’re so able later tonight, treat yourself to watching some baseball.
