Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks football program received some bad news this weekend when it was learned that starting quarterback Connor Mitch will miss significant time.
Mitch suffered a hip injury in Week One and he has since been hospitalized with a hip infection. Mitch will be forced to sit out the next four to six weeks for the Gamecocks.
“He got treatment all week, and felt like he was ready to go,” Spurrier said. “I think he probably just got hit again on that deep bruise, and it is an ugly bruise. That probably aggravated it also.
“We have confidence in Perry [Orth]. It was unfortunate Connor got hurt, but you have to move on to the next player.”
The good news for Sourth Carolina is that Spurrier seems to have full confidence in the team’s backup.
Orth will start for the Gamecocks next Sunday when the team travels to Athens for a meeting with the Georgia Bulldogs at Sanford Stadium.
