In August, ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit made his picks for the College Football Playoff. His picks aren’t looking hold up very well right now as the Arizona State Sun Devils are currently unranked, the LSU Tigers relied on a missed field goal to escape Starkville and the Oklahoma Sooners had to come back and beat the Volunteers in double overtime.
The only pick of Herbstreit’s that is still holding up fairly well is Ohio State as they are looking dominant as the number on team in the country still. According to College Spun, Herbstreit made a new final four for the event in January and it looks vastly different, and probably very similar to many people’s picks.
While he doesn’t mention who wins and loses in the January bowls, it’s safe to assume that we would be looking at a Sugar Bowl rematch for the national championship. However, it’s interesting to note the UCLA Bruins in his four as they are being led by true freshman Josh Rosen and have just cracked the AP Top Ten for the first time this year.
The season is still very young, so there’s no telling who ends up the CFP this year. Heck, with the way things are going, it could be time for a non-Power Five conference team to shine.
