Since announcing a four-game series against Penn State starting next season, the Pitt Panthers are finding it difficult to extend that series beyond 2019 since scheduling requirements and games-in-advanced leave minute room for additional match-ups.
Recently, Pitt revealed the renewal of the Backyard Brawl with West Virginia, slated to resume in 2022 since Penn State wanted nothing to do with meeting Pitt in the next several calendar years or atleast that’s Pittsburgh athletic director Scott Barnes’ logic.
Even a one-game series for old time’s sake is out of the question for 2022.
Coincidentally, Penn State has agreed to future meetings with the Mountaineers of the Big 12 in 2023 and then again in 2024. In the following season, Penn State will partake in an ACC opponent in Virginia Tech, in addition to their first game set for 2020.
