The second week of the college football season provided some explosive performances by some individual players and they got rewarded for their efforts. The ACC likes to give out their Player of the Week awards in a different fashion as they give out an award to each position instead of giving one to an offensive and defensive player.
According to the ACC Digital Network, the offensive back of the week was Florida State running back Dalvin Cook. After having a huge showing in Week 1, his Week 2 performance was even better against South Florida as he rushed for 266 yards and three touchdowns.
Virginia wide receiver Caanan Severin had a big week in the Cavaliers’ near upset of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. He won receiver of the week after he had eleven catches for 153 yards in the game.
Syracuse quarterback Eric Dungey was named the rookie of the week as he led his team to victory over Wake Forest by throwing for 221 yards and two scores, including a 53-yard strike to Steve Ishmael in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Syracuse corner Julian Whigham and Florida State corner Jalen Ramsey were named co-defensive backs of the week. P
ittsburgh and Clemson defensive linemen Tyrique Jarrett and Shaq Lawson were named co-defensive linemen of the week, while Shakeel Rashad of North Carolina won linebacker of the week.
Roderick Johnson from Florida State was named the offensive lineman of the week, while his fellow teammate, kicker Roberto Aguayo was named specialist of the week.
Aguayo set an ACC record for 161 straight PATs without a miss.
What will Week 2 bring us? It’s only a matter of time!
