California WR Erik Brown leaves team for personal reasons

The California Golden Bears were excited about the potential that freshman wide receiver Erik Brown had, but they aren’t going to see what kind of player he can become. According to a report from Sports Illustrated, Brown has decided to leave the California football program due to undisclosed personal reasons.

Brown was the top receiving recruit in California’s 2014 class, but he hadn’t seen playing time in the first two games of the 2015 season.

At 6-foot-1 and 175 pounds, Brown was a very speedy receiver who could have made a name for himself over the next few years. Now, no one will know whether Brown would have lived up to the star potential that many saw in him during his recruiting process.

According to Sports Illustrated’s report, Brown will retain his scholarship and will remain a student at California.

Next up for the Golden Bears is a date against the Texas Longhorns on the road Saturday.
