Paul Finebaum says SEC fans ‘need to shut up’

The SEC was a hot topic of conversation last week after coaches and fans alike criticized the relative easiness of reigning champion Ohio State’s schedule, but now the shoe could be on the other foot after a rough week for the conference.

Sure enough, longtime SEC advocate Paul Finebaum went on television and was blunt in saying that SEC fans “need to shut up.”

Though he’s a brash, polarizing figure in the college football world, Finebaum is absolutely right. Auburn needed both a final-seconds touchdown and then overtime to defeat FCS program Jacksonville State at home, and Arkansas lost a home game 16-12 to the MAC’s Toledo Rockets. Tennessee also lost over the weekend, albeit in double-overtime to a top program in Oklahoma, but it should be noted that the Vols blew a 17-0 lead before losing 31-24.

No matter how you look at it, this past weekend was a wakeup call for the SEC, and Finebaum’s words should be taken to heart.

Then again, SEC fans are not ones to simply be quiet, so this is probably not the last we’ve heard of their complaining about Ohio State’s schedule.
