The Auburn Tigers narrowly survived an overtime scare from Jacksonville State this past weekend, but they received some very tough injury news today.
According to multiple reports, senior cornerback Joshua Holsey will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL that he suffered last weekend.
Holsey was the starting nickelback against Jacksonville State, but hadn’t recorded any stats throughout Auburn’s first two games.
Last season with the Tigers, Holsey recorded 41 tackles and two pass breakups throughout the course of the year. He wasn’t a huge piece of the Auburn defense, but Holsey provided excellent depth and was solid in coverage.
Depth is huge for SEC defenses and Holsey’s experience and leadership will be missed.
It’s always tough to see a senior end his career with a serious injury, especially a player that has worked as hard as Holsey has to get to being a starter. Auburn needs all the help they can get moving forward after seeing some major holes on both sides of the football in Week 2.
Expect to see the defense struggle a bit without their experienced leader on the field. There should be someone that will step up and replace him, but experience cannot be taught.
