Music and sports kind of go hand-in-hand. From what ahtletes put in their headphones before game time to what blares over the stadium/arena/ballpark speakers after a home team’s victory.
The strong tie between sports and song is part of what makes Russell Wilson’s relationship with Ciara a team dilemma–well, from a musical sense anyways.
Recently Billboard Magazine caught up with a couple NFL team DJs–yes, the team’s have their own DJs–including DJ DV One who spins for the Seahawks He revealed in the interview that the Seattle QB’s relationship with the pop star–and the off-field drama between him and Ciara’s ex, Future–have made it hard to compile a playlist.
“This year, I’ve been getting a lot of requests for Future. But that dynamic is weird too, because I can barely play Future with Ciara running around and that’s her baby’s dad. It’s just that he has a dope-ass album out right now, players like to hear it, it definitely gets you pumped up — even though it’s low-tempo, it’s still stuff that you want to hear — and then you’ve got Ciara running up with little baby Future and she’s dating Russell so it’s like, “Oh f—.””
Personally, I’m not sure why Ciara is “running around” the Seahawks practice facility anyways. But you can still see how this could cause some unease.
Plus, DV goes, he supposedly can’t put her songs on the practice playlist either.
“I also feel weird playing Ciara, because I was playing Ciara before she started dating Russell. I’d play “Goodies” and stuff like that for the crowd because it’s mainstream — it’s dance-y music, it’s popular, it’s stuff that you can get away with playing. Now that she’s dating Russell, I don’t want people to be like, “He’s just playing that because she’s dating Russell.””
I’m going to go out on a limb and assume that this isn’t a problem Wilson can solve by throwing Recovery Water on it.
