Ever since Florida head coach Jim McElwain went off on running back Kelvin Taylor after a throat slash gesture after scoring a touchdown against East Carolina last Saturday, there has been some disagreement on the way he handled the situation.
On Saturday’s ESPN College Gameday from Tuscaloosa, college football analyst Desmond Howard gave his take on the situation. He aired on the side of McElwain being a little too harsh on Taylor saying that he should have been suspended for the game today.

Another fellow ESPN college football analyst Danny Kanell took to Twitter and he absolutely disagreed with Howard’s comments. This is especially ironic seeing Kanell side with a Florida coach especially since he played at Florida State and has expressed his disdain for anything SEC many times in the past.
Oh my goodness we coddle and baby these players so much now… Suspension??? Come on now @DesmondHoward

Howard, surprisingly, was able to respond even while sitting on the Gameday set.
@dannykanell "Oh my goodness"… Okay. LOL

After Howard responded, it triggered Kanell into an epic rant. ESPN’s Mike Golic even got in on discussion as he agreed with Kanell earlier this week.
@DesmondHoward there wouldn't be any coaches left if we suspended them for chewing out guys or using F bombs!!!

I can't take it that we are even still talking about this….. This is absolutely not a big deal.

@espngolic I'm just dumbfounded. But I am going to see if Dez can coach my 6 year old girls soccer team

I have to agree, begrudgingly, with Kanell on this one. Even after hearing the audio from McElwain, which admittedly was very NSFW, I have to say that I have heard much worse. McElwain didn’t put his hands on Taylor, so I don’t think there is anything wrong with the way he handled the situation.
What do you think? Was McElwain out of line? Or did he handle this the right way?
