4-star DE Malik Barrow commits mid-year to Ohio State

One of the nation’s premiere high school football factories is Florida-based academy IMG, the school that has manufactured a top tier defensive tackle in Malik Barrow, who announced his commitment to play for Urban Meyer at Ohio State in 2016.

Already snagging Joey Bosa’s younger brother Nick from St. Thomas Aquinas (FL), Ohio State continues to stock up on its young core of talent by introducing a newer system dedicated to securing incoming freshman: non-binding, mid-year agreements that ensure a spot on a roster.

Another benefactor of mid-year agreements is limitless contact from coach to the recruit, which is deemed legal in the rulebook, but if the recruit de-commits and heads elsewhere, the university is subjected to a minor infraction by the NCAA.

According to 247Sports, Barrow is placed at 299th overall and 17th at his respective position as a strong-side defensive end. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound senior also had an offer from Miami, but landed at Ohio State thanks to recruiters Tony Alford and Larry Johnson.

Malik Barrow did, however, manage to end his 2015 season early with IMG Academy after suffering an injury, which adds a bit of doubt as to whether or not he’ll be prepared to suit up for Ohio State next fall.
