As if knocking quarterback Malik Zaire out for the season with a broken ankle wasn’t enough, the injury bug paid another visit to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish yesterday, and not in a pretty manner.
The victim this time around was safety Drue Tranquill, who celebrated with linebacker Joe Schmidt after breaking up a pass in the team’s 30-22 win over Georgia Tech yesterday only to suddenly fall to the ground clutching his knee. Needless to say, it was hard to watch for everyone involved.

ESPN’s Brett McMurphy went so far as to compare Tranquill to former NFL kicker Bill Gramatica, who famously tore his ACL after celebrating a made field goal.

A sophomore, Tranquill had five tackles this season prior to his injury. No specifics on what happened have been given yet, but chances are he will be out for an extended period of time and Campus Sports will update his status as more information becomes available.
Notre Dame will look to go 4-o next weekend when the MAC’s Massachusetts Minutemen pay a visit to South Bend.
