A likely scenario from the beginning of the season, the college football standings are taking a sharp left into the eye of the hurricane, tossing teams from the SEC and PAC-12 around like rag dolls. Many polls have agreed on the “downfall” of Alabama, who started out third behind TCU and Ohio State in the AP Preseason Poll.
ESPN college football analyst, Kirk Herbstreit, embarked on his own team ratings, spawning the likes of a football foursome that featured Ohio State at No. 1 with Alabama, UCLA and TCU following suit.
With an Alabama loss and UCLA narrowly escaping the Cinderella story of BYU’s two back-to-back game winning hail marys, Herbie’s week three rankings after listing OSU at No.1, shifted a bit…
Again my top 4 will be very FLUID until we know these teams better. 1-Ohio State
2-LSU
3-Ole Miss
4-Michigan State— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) September 20, 2015
In congruence with his own line of thinking, fellow GameDay on-air specialist, Rece Davis, compiled his top 12 teams along with an additional four teams ranked 13th through 16th that people need to keep an eye on, including a program on the hot seat, Alabama.
One notable difference of Herbie’s and Davis’ systems is where they think LSU belongs after Fournette posted 228 yards against an already shallow Auburn team, whose side effects of an overtime win against Jacksonville State are on-going.
After their season opener was cancelled against McNeese State due to inclement weather, victories over SEC rivals Mississippi State and Auburn are suitable reasons for Herbstreit ranking the Tigers at No. 2, but Rece Davis wasn’t on the same page, placing them 11th overall in his top 16.
