A three-star recruit out of Harrison High School in Kennesaw, Georgia, near Atlanta, Nunez is a dual threat quarterback who saw some snaps in last weekend’s 52-20 loss to Georgia. After Perry Orth completed just 6 of 17 pass attempts for 66 yards and an interception, Nunez came in and completed 4 of 5 throws for 18 yards while also adding 76 rushing yards and a touchdown on a mere 10 carries.
Given how much South Carolina is hurting at quarterback following injuries to Connor Mitch, who started the season opener against North Carolina before going down with a separated shoulder the following week against Kentucky, Nunez eventually seeing time under center seemed all but an inevitability with how much the team has underperformed this year.
Hopefully, the Gamecocks can use being 14.5 point favorites against UCF and another new face at QB to rally together and go on a run that sees them play the rest of the season strong and confident rather than looking defeated from the get-go.
Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. ET on ESPNU.
