Texas Longhorns redshirt freshman linebacker Edwin Freeman suffered a shoulder injury in last weekend’s game against Cal and will be out 6-8 weeks, with surgery also being a possibility. Ryan Autullo of the Austin American-Statesman reported the unfortunate news.
LB Ed Freeman tells me he is out 6-8 weeks with shoulder injury. Will have X-ray today to decide if surgery needed.

Freeman’s injury made headlines on Saturday night after he collapsed to the ground en route to the sideline, causing some to speculate that he had actually faked it. Freeman then took to Twitter to explain exactly what happened.
Funny what ppl think they know I really hurt my shoulder on the previous play was trying 2 get off the field but they told me to get down

A former four-star recruit out of Bowie High School in Arlington, Texas, Freeman posted seven tackles this year before his injury. Combined with the loss of fellow linebacker Dalton Santos, who is out with an ankle injury, this leaves Texas thin at the position, with just five linebackers on the roster along with freshman sensation Malik Jefferson.
Needless to say, coach Charlie Strong is going to have to get creative with the team’s defensive attack for the foreseeable future.
Campus Sports will update Freeman’s status as any new information becomes available.
Texas’ next game comes at home against Oklahoma State on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
