Some potentially major news in the mixed martial arts world surfaced on Monday afternoon, with the Ultimate Fighting Championship announcing a scheduled event on April 23, 2016.
The event is tentatively scheduled for Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Of course, because MMA is currently illegal in the state of New York, the promotion will seek an injunction from a federal judge. If things go their way, the UFC will finally be able to hold a show at the elusive MSG.

The UFC has been working hard to hold an event in New York City, but politics have always been an obstacle.
This time, however, there seems to be some hope.
With a date set and an injunction being sought out, we could finally see a MMA event at the Mecca of combat sports. It would be long overdue.
As for who could headline the event in New York, the return of former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones would be a great fit. Middleweight champion Chris Weidman is also from New York, so perhaps a superfight between a former and current champion could be the big name fight the UFC needs to pack The Garden.
