Dabo Swinney not a fan of College Football Playoff polls

Clemson Tigers head coach Dabo Swinney met with the media on Tuesday afternoon, ahead of this weekend’s big matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in Death Valley.

One of the topics the Clemson coach touched on was the College Football Playoff.

While Swinney is likely fond of the playoff format, he bashed the polls and considered the fact that he has to give his weekly rankings a major “waste of time.”

Dabo Swinney: "I have to do a poll every week and it’s the biggest waste of my time. There shouldn’t be a poll until October."

Dabo Swinney: "Those same people that don’t believe in us, those are the same people that believed in Auburn, Arizona State and Oregon."

Ouch.

Swinney may sound unhappy with the doubters, but he has a fair point.

Preseason polls often prove to be a giant farce and the week-to-week rankings do waste a coaches time. Perhaps we should simply have one poll that comes out every few weeks, with the first poll allowing for a full month of tape before attempting to decide how teams stack up against each other.
