Florida asks band to stop playing ‘Move Back You Suck’

The University of Florida has sent a request to the marching band asking that a semi-offensive chant is no longer played during games. That chant, “Move Back You Suck,” was generally played to the tune of “You Can’t Do That” after penalties from opposing teams.

Here is an example of the little diddy that will no longer be played.

“The reason why it’s been stopped is because there have been too many complaints from fans to the athletic department that the student section was saying something else that the fans thought was vulgar and inappropriate,” University of Florida Associate Director of Bands Jay Watkins said, via WUFT.

“This is a frustrating situation for all and a perfect example of how a few complaints or a few individuals doing the wrong thing negatively affect a great 10-year tradition.”

You can understand why the university would ask the band to stop the song, but will it actually work?

Even without the tune, the fans in attendance will be able to chant anything they’d like if they can coordinate with their student section.

We will find out if the marching band got the memo and whether the students will follow on Saturday when the Gators welcome the Ole Miss Rebels to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field.
