Jon Gruden is ESPN’s highest paid on-air personality

ESPN is the biggest leader in the sports world as far as news and TV goes and they have quite a few on-air personalities that are very popular. One of them is Jon Gruden, who is the color analyst for Monday Night Football.

According to a tweet from James Andrew Miller, Gruden is the highest paid ESPN personality at $6.5 million per year.

Gruden is a very good analyst and his name alone is likely a big reason that he is getting that kind of pay. There were rumors before he got his latest contract extension with ESPN that he could make a return to the sidelines and coach an NFL team.

The only way for ESPN to keep him in the broadcasting booth was to give him this type of money.

There is also a chance that other networks were trying to poach Gruden, although the return to coaching likely was more of the issue.

It is hard to find good NFL analysts like Gruden, so keeping him around is very important for them. He fits very well alongside of Mike Tirico and the two have excellent chemistry and make for a very good broadcast.

All of that being said, it is interesting to see how much people that high up in ESPN make. Gruden is one of the top on the food chain, but there are a few above him that would be interesting to find out how much they make.

ESPN Monday Night Football wouldn’t be the same without Gruden on the broadcast and they need to do whatever it takes to keep him around.
