Two Memphis players escape apartment fire

There was a scary situation Wednesday morning off the campus of the University of Memphis.

Two basketball players for the Tigers program — roommates Trahson Burrell and Markel Crawford — were able to escape an apartment fire. The two young men woke up to a fire alarm, before evacuating their building and finding their way to safety.

Memphis coach Josh Pastner shared the news.

“The smoke alarm went off and they got up and tried to put (the fire) out and it just kept going and going, and they got out of there,” Pastner said, via the Memphis Commercial-Appeal.

While the players were able to get out of their apartment, Pastner indicated they lost many of their possessions in the blaze.

Hopefully the university will aid the two men as they get back on their feet and search for a new place to live.
