Clay Matthews is one of the better defensive playmakers in the NFL, but he has not been making the impact that the Green Bay Packers have needed the last few weeks. He is without question capable of stepping his game up and he talked about knowing that he needed to do so in a recent interview.
“I need to find a way to be more impactful,” he said. “Playmakers have to continue to show up. You can’t have games where you have one or zero tackles despite being disruptive. All you can really do is look forward to the next game. I think we’ll have plenty of opportunities to stop the run game and keep me involved schematically.”
Green Bay is set to face off against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 17, with the winner taking home the NFC North division title.
Throughout the course of the 2015 NFL season, Matthews has been playing the inside linebacker position. He has not been able to make the type of impact in the pass rush that he would normally like to, but he still has many ways that he can impact the game.
Matthews has recorded 63 tackles, 5.5 sacks, an interception and three defensed passes this season.
It will be interesting to see what kind of production Matthews can put up this week against the Vikings. Green Bay is going through some offensive struggles, which makes the defense even more important. Matthews has to figure out how to make the necessary plays to put the offense in better positions.
Expect to see him come out aggressively this week looking to make plays and the impact that the Packers need.
