Pitt’s Tyler Boyd announces draft decision in a poem

Pittsburgh wide receiver Tyler Boyd announced he would be leaving school for the NFL Draft Saturday. That news wasn’t surprising, but how he did it was. Instead of a normal press release or tweet, Boyd sent DKPittsburghSports.com and two other outlets a poem announcing his departure.

Dear Pittsburgh,

From the moment
I first put on my shoulder pads
and dreamed of catching the Super Bowl winning
catch at a field down the street from my house
I knew one thing was real

I fell in love with you

Love so deep I gave you everything I had with
Every part of my heart &
Every part of my soul

As a little boy playing for the Clairton little Bears
I never seen the ceiling on the heights you would take me to
I only saw myself
Making you proud

And so I worked
Up and down Neil C Brown Stadium
1 Championship, 2 Championships, 3 Championships
4 Championships & 63 straight wins
I gave you my all

I played through blood and sweat
From the Bear Trap to Heinz Field
You gave me all the love and support I could have asked for
You gave me the best memories ever
But I must say goodbye for now

I will be declaring for the 2016 NFL Draft
But as I step out and begin my professional journey
I will always savor the moments we had
All the support you gave me
And for making me a man

I will carry you with me
I will continue to make you proud &
I promise to never forget where I came from

As we both know, No matter what
I will always be the kid from Clairton
that dreamed of catching that winning touchdown
Thank you for raising me Pittsburgh

Hail to Pitt,

Tyler A Boyd

Boyd leaves as Pitt’s all-time leading receiver, and was a communication major. Looks like he’s already putting it to good use.
